Information behavior and practices research informing information systems design

چکیده
Information behavior and practices (IBP) research has been repeatedly criticized for having little impact on information systems development (ISD). Claiming that there is a complete disconnect would be an exaggeration but it apparent not always easy to translate findings of IBP workable design recommendations. Based reading earlier literature closer investigation three illustrative example contexts, this article underlines the value ISD lies in its capability inform variety ways people deal with beyond individual systems, their own wants designers' assumptions. Moreover, highlights implications go primary users. Instead overemphasizing contextuality findings, part benefit from increased focus explicating epistemological extents limits identifying, which are transferable, what distinguishes specific defining constraints priorities, aspects uniqueness assumptions simple clichés.

Informing South African Students about Information Systems
At the University of Cape Town, females and students disadvantaged under the previous South African apartheid education system are under-represented in Information Systems (I.S.) classes. This research shows that these are also the groups most ignorant about I.S. at the school-leaving stage. After being informed about the discipline through a small intervention, a significant increase in enthus...
